TERROR IN BENIN: Local Government Councilor Kidnapped amidst heavy shooting

In recent times, Benin metropolis seems to have become a war-zone for all well-meaning inhabitants. These are exemplified from the several violent cases that had taken in place in recent times. These include the recent cult clashes (that led to the death of over 58 able-bodied youths), molestation of passersby at certain environs, and vandalism of Police station and correctional fs. Though these have been put in check through the visible military men on the roads, however, the rate of crime and armed robbery seems to be on the rise. In spite of these recent woes of the Benin metropolis, kidnapping seem to have been added to the plagues of Benin city.

It has been reported that some heavily armed men have forcefully abducted one Mr Israel Inyanabor Ejiro, who happens to be a councillor representing Ewohimi Ward-One in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident is said to have taken place along Ewatto-Ubiaja-Okhuesan Road very close to Ena River in Esan South-East LGA of Edo state (Nigeria) on Wednesday, the second day of December

News filtered-in from some other correspondence that suspected armed bandits also abducted a Teacher and his wife Mr and Mrs Aluola. The location of this abduction corroborates with the location where Mr Israel Inyanabor Ejiro was abducted. These armed bandits requested for 15million ransom before they would release the Teacher

A resident member of Ewohimi, Festus Ehigiator, who helped confirm the latest kidnap, said that the councillor was driving along Ewatto-Ubiaja-Okhuesan Road when these gunmen suddenly rose from a nearby bush and opened fire.

He said the velocity of the gun-shots compelled the council law-maker to stop abruptly, adding that the armed bandits seized the victim and took him into the nearby forest.
