NUC scraps sub-degree certificates
The National Universities Commission, NUC, has scrapped sub-degree certificate programs in the Nigerian University System, with an approach colleges running them to start the way toward twisting them down. Official Secretary, NUC, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed said that the choice scrapping the sub-degree recognition was come to amid a meeting in Abuja with Vice Chancellors of government, state and private colleges in the nation last Wednesday. He said: ''Running sub-degree certificates was not the matter of Universities, but rather that of Polytechnics, all the more so when the Federal Government, as far back as November, 2001, had issued a round expressing that such confirmations couldn't be utilized for job or advancement purposes in the Public Service.'' Rather than extend their offices to run sub-degree programs, the universites, he said, ought to coordinate their energies towards their essential capacity of delivering abnormal state labor for the economy, by strenthening their low maintenance programs, notwithstanding offering top notch college degrees and postgraduate recognitions and degrees.''
